From "origo", latin for "origin" or "beginning" and "ology", the "study" or "discourse". So, origology is the "study of origins".

Other studies of origins include:

  • Etymology - origins of words
  • Entomology - the study of insects
  • Archaeology - origin of human culture
  • Genealogy - origin of a family

"Origology" was officialy coined/founded by Tim Gray on January 14, 2005 upon discovering that this term, and therefore the wide-ranging study of origins in general, did not exist.
